In the Caribbean Sea, one hundred miles south of Cuba,
lies the island of Jamaica




Jamaica is divided into three counties: Surrey to the east, centrally located Middlesex, and Cornwall to the west. At the north coast of Cornwall is Falmouth.

Falmouth -- the capital of Trelawny -- was once part of the Parish of Saint James. In 1774, it separated and was named in honor of Sir William Trelawny, the governor of Jamaica, for his birthplace in Cornwall, Great Britain

At this time there were eighty eight sugar plantations -- sugar was the world economy

In the late Eighteenth Century, there were five newspapers: The Cornwall Chronicle, Cornwall Gazette, Falmouth Post, Falmouth Gazette and the Baptist Herald.
