Italian inventor Gugliemo Marconi chose Poldhu station in Cornwall to experiment with the world's first transatlantic broadcast to Signal Hill, Newfoundland   Three dots of Morse code -- the letter S -- was received from 2,000 miles away, ushering in the birth of radio telecommunications.

 

 

 

 

Overlooking the Cornish Channel, this monument marks Marconi's achievement of 12 December 1901
